Who runs this site
Two people, Sandeep and Manisha, as a hobby. We are from Kudla (Mangaluru) and live in Melbourne. More on the About us page. Not a company. Nothing is sold here and there are no adverts.
Counting visits
We would like to know which pages people read. For that we use Google Analytics.
- It starts only if you press Yes on the note at the bottom of the page.
- It records which pages you open, the country and city you are in, the kind of device you use, and the language of the page.
- It does not know your name or your email address.
- Google keeps this for 14 months. Its advertising features are switched off.
- If you press No, nothing is counted. If your browser is set to "do not track", nothing is counted and we do not ask.

Your light or dark choice, and your answer about counting. Both stay in your own browser. They are not sent to us.
The servers
The site is delivered by Cloudflare. Cloudflare sees your internet address for a short time, to send you the page and to block attacks. We do not use this to find out who you are.
If you write to us
We keep your message and your email address, so that we can reply and so that we can credit you if you contribute. We do not share it, sell it, or put you on any list.
What you can ask for
- To see what we hold about you, or to have it corrected or deleted.
- To have a photograph you appear in taken down, or your name removed.

If you want to contribute
Write to us first. Do not send photographs, recordings or documents until we have agreed how they will be used. Then:
- You keep the copyright in anything you send.
- It is published under an open licence, the same one Wikipedia uses (Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0). That means anyone may reuse it if they name you and share it under the same terms. If you would rather it appear only on this site, tell us and we will do that instead.
- Send only what is yours to give. An old family photograph usually belongs to the photographer or the studio, not the family. A recording of a song or a paddana involves the singer's rights as well. Tell us what you know and we will work it out together.
- The people in it must agree. If someone can be seen or heard, please check that they are happy for it to be published. For a child, a parent must agree.
- You choose the credit. We name contributors unless you ask us not to. Accounts of family or community customs are published without names or house names unless you ask.
- You can change your mind. Ask, and we take it down. Copies that other people made while it was online are beyond our reach.
- Some things are not for publishing. If a ritual, text or practice is kept within a family, a shrine or a community, tell us. We describe it only as far as its keepers allow.
Credits
The site's own text and drawings are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 licence: reuse them with credit to tulunadu.org and share under the same terms. Every photograph carries the name of its author, a link to where it came from, and its licence. The typefaces are used under the SIL Open Font License. The sun and crescent moon flag is a simple design with no copyright and no official status.
